A Prayer For Owen Meany
Chapter
3 - The Angel
- This chapter was interesting to me ever since Owen woke up sick and went to Johnny s mothers room. Owen claims he interrupted the Angel of Death at work. This is when the story really focuses on Owen. It shows that the Angel of Death has left Owen the burden of killing Johnny s mother. Later in the chapter, in the wedding, Owen gifts Tabitha(Johnny s mother) with a granite stone. On page 122 Johnny says, " in my opinion- and in Dan's-Owen did give her a gravestone. It had been made with her wedding date on it, but it was a miniature tombstone." And when the wedding weather turned gruesome, Johnny described it as funeral weather. When Owen went outside and to talk to Tabitha, she asked him how he was getting home. When she offered him a ride home, she got out of the car and got hit by a hailstone. Later on, Johnny describes how the hailstones were "otherworldly" and as hard as a baseball. I think this shows foreshadowing to her death. DEATH by a baseball.
