A Prayer For Owen Meany; Chapter 4 Response

After reading Chapter 14 in the book "How to read literature like a professor" I figured it was ironic that I had to read chapter 4 in " A prayer for Owen Meany" where Owen played a baby Jesus. I thought this because chapter 14 in " How to read like a professor" the chapter talked about Christ figures and how the author writes a character who symbolizes Christ in any way, doing so, it shows that the writer is up to something later on in the book. During class we discussed about Owen Meany and soon figured out that he is somewhat like a Christ figure for the following reasons:
1.) Hes marked by his physical deformity, such as his height, voice, skin color, hair and intense icy eyes
2.) He's a Martyr- through out the book he show how dedicated he is to his religion
3.) In a way he did sacrifice; After the funeral of johns mom's death he gave up his most loved possession... His baseball cards
4.) Even though he is not 33 his wisdom is beyond his years. He knows so much about the bile and has read the whole book
4.) Through out the book his dialogue is the only one that is always in caps, the author distinguishes that he truly is special because in the Bible, Jesus dialogue is the only one in red
So to read chapter 4 and realize that Owen has to act baby Jesus in a Christmas play is kind of funny because that's exactly what the author symbolizes him as.
